30 Days to Hands on Play : Family Time

30 days to hands on play challenge

DAY 6 CHALLENGE:

 FAMILY TOGETHER TIME

family together time challenge
Puzzles, Game Night, Coloring.

Perfect for a Sunday afternoon or evening!
Some together time as a family before the work week hits us again.

This challenge may seem kind of obvious, we spend a lot of time together as a family, but rarely doing something together as a family.

This is great reminder of how important and special these moments really are.
And sometimes we need to purposefully create them.

This 'Challenge' is meant to get you started, to spark your creativity with your kids [and their creativity!]. I'm excited to see where this activity takes you and your kids today!

DAY 6 CHALLENGE:
Spend [at least] 15 minutes of uninterrupted* time as a family! Simple as that. Carve out some time to sit together and enjoy a few minutes as a complete family.

[*uninterrupted : being present with the child. No technology, phones, television, computer, etc. No errands, chores, making dinner, etc.]

IDEAS OF OBJECTS TO USE:
  • kids games [such as Memory, Don't Break the Ice, Chutes & Ladders, etc.]
  • puzzles! [Varied to the child's ability. Or each of you have your own and make it a challenge!]
  • coloring books and crayons [draw free-hand or color]
  • playing cards

Remember to adapt this idea as best you can to your own kids. As many of you are learning through the previous challenges, to go with the flow and follow the kid's interest.

IDEAS TO ADAPT:
  • Play games like Hang Man, or Tic Tac Toe for the older ones.
  • Write down or draw ideas of what you're Thankful for. [Great for Thanksgiving coming up!]
  • Charades! or Pictionary!
  • A family game of peek-a-boo for the little ones.

Excellent reminder! As moms we do things with our kids, but do we ever get Dad and everyone else in the house involved? I think you and Anna could write a book based on this 30 day challenge. Especially in this day and age when everyone is going going all the time and staring at technology and etc. it's like we are together, but we are not really together doing things and acknowledging each other. Our world needs to me reminded each day!

My son and husband did some "family" time together playing puzzles today! They also loved island jumping and making volcanoes with couch cushions yesterday. :) I'm excited for when I get home from my girls weekend and can play along too. Hope you're having a fabulous weekend!

Ruth - I am all for that kind of linky party! What a great idea! My hubbie is a very hands on dad, but like me we find we play for about 10 minutes many times a day. Challenging ourselves to play for longer periods of time encourages us to use our imaginations more and helps us extend our play as a family! My family is really enjoying the challenge =) and learning more about each other!

I love the pic of Daddy coloring with the kids; that is how we do a lot of family time... At least until they're a little older for games. Although they do like Elefun!

Dad. I've got to pull out the board games and get him playing with us! Thanks for linking up to Monday Madness.

Glad you shared this on Monday Madness. I was up to doing your challenge and then the weekend hit and we were again running here and there and everywhere and I let it slide. This is a great reminder to me to start over again tomorrow. Love the family game night. I want that to be something we do weekly.
