30 Days to Hands on Play : Concoctions

DAY 10 CHALLENGE:

MIXING CONCOCTIONS

Mixing together a few ingredients, creating a concoction that does wonders.

Your kids will love this challenge!
And learn a little about science in the process.

Vinegar and Baking Soda.
Oh the magic.


Adding a little color to it adds a whole new element of fun!
Mixing and dropping the vinegar in and watching it explode.
It never gets old. [Even for the adults!]


We used four jars and added food coloring in the bottom of each.
Henry added some a lot of baking soda to each jar.
We then poured in the vinegar, over and over.
First starting with little squirts and watching it fizz.
Eventually building up to the explosions!

"Do it again!" was a popular phrase while mixing our concoctions.

This 'Challenge' is meant to get you started, to spark your creativity with your kids [and their creativity!]. Your child may not be interested in this specific challenge, and that's okay! Have another go at a previous challenge, or don't be afraid to just sit and play with them and see where they lead you.

DAY 10 CHALLENGE:

Spend [at least] 15 minutes of uninterrupted* time mixing concoctions with your kids.

Concoct a mixture of ingredients you have in your cupboard [flour, spices, sugar, cornflour, cornmeal], or vinegar and water. Explore how they combine and what happens. Stir and mix, or squirt and spray. Add color to make it interesting if you choose!

[*uninterrupted : being present with the child. No technology, phones, television, computer, etc. No errands, chores, making dinner, etc.]

MORE IDEAS FOR CONCOCTION MIXES:

• Spread baking soda on a tray and squirt on colored vinegar. [See Kids Experiment]
• Pour milk in a shallow tray, add food coloring in the center. Dip a Q-Tip in dish soap and touch the center of the milk and watch it spread.
• Mix cornflour and water, its a fun mixture!
• Mix everyday household ingredients and 'make' something up! [See Stirring & Mixing]
