30 Days to Hands on Play : A Hunt
DAY 16 CHALLENGE:
GO ON A HUNT
DAY 16 CHALLENGE:Spend [at least] 15 minutes of uninterrupted* time going on a hunt! Plan one out with drawings, pictures or words. Or shout out an item to look for! Get creative with it!
[*uninterrupted : being present with the child. No technology, phones, television, computer, etc. No errands, chores, making dinner, etc.]
I love this challenge because it can be done in so many ways.
You can deliberately hide items and have your child find them.
We did this with foam ABC letters that I hid around the house.
[I even added a little learning to it by having him match them up to the corresponding lower case letter.]
Or you could make a list of objects, by description, to find.
For example:
- Something that's blue.
- An object that starts with the letter S.
- A square object.
And you can make these as simple or as difficult as your child can do!
You can also take this hunt outside!
Find objects in nature.
Or hide many like objects, as you would an Easter Egg Hunt, and see how many they can find.
Add a timer to it to race against the clock for added adventure!
Another great way to enjoy a hunt is make it a treasure hunt!
Add a map and find the treasure!
Or add clues to search for one big prize!

- Easter Egg Hunt [finding like objects]
- Outdoor nature scavenger hunt [with printable of items to find]
- Shout out of items to find in the house [based on description]

This 'Challenge' is meant to get you started, to spark your creativity with your kids [and their creativity!]. Your child may not be interested in this specific challenge, and that's okay! Have another go at a previous challenge, or don't be afraid to just sit and play with them and see where they lead you.

Oooh yet another prefect play idea! My son LOVES it when I hide objects and he has to find them. Really good for those "tricky moments", when they are all restless and noisy and difficult. They are instantly distracted. Love the idea of using letters too - a bit of alphabet reinforcement!

Great idea! We will do this before tea time when they start to get all restless and fed up. Now to think what to do....hmmmm, off to rummage through drawers for inspiration!
We're going on a color hunt! We have looked for all things red, pink, blue, purple and now we are about to do green!
We are going Geocaching this afternoon for the first time! Should be a fun outdoor hunt!
